When I was a little kid I grew up on a farm where there weren't any other little kids to play with except my big brother. This accounts for my lack of social skills, no doubt. My dad was away from home working on the road 5 days a week. My mom carried the weight of the farmwork during that time. Until we were of an age to be useful we were expected to entertain ourselves. Fine by me. I was perfectly happy wandering into the woods or cornfields and playing with my stuffed animal friends for hours. I came to appreciate my quiet time naturally.
Right now I am trying to stay quiet and calm as I work toward five upcoming art show commitments.
The closest one is the sixth annual Hershey Hummelstown Art Tour on October 19th and 20th. I will be lounging around my back porch with a lot of new artwork that I hope you get to see if you are in the area. If another time works better for you, let me know! I'm flexible. We have several new artists on the tour this year, so there really is something for everyone. :)
The most distant show is next year at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center. Louise Thomas, a wonderfully sensitive photographer, and I were chosen by CALC to do a two person show. The interesting thing is that they told us to get together and collaborate on a show that would be cohesive because they thought our work complimented each other. So we got together early this year and talked about writing an artist statement and then developing work that supported that statement. But instead we chose to do what we wanted to do throughout the year and let the evolution of the work formulate the evolution of our statement. So our artist statement is a draft and will be continued to be adjusted and finetuned as we come closer to the show. Pretty fun process. I am sure there is a larger meaning there that can be applied to how we view and choose the lives that we live as well.
Artists. We are so deep.
I hope that you too are enjoying the excitement of being calm within yourself and enjoying the process as our lives evolve.
Be sure to take very good care of yourselves,
Jill
